Tales that take you somewhere

Travel writing

From trying to learn one of the world’s only whistling languages to cooking with the stew queens of Asturias, my writing centres on telling stories of people and place. I write extended features to short, snappy copy, complete guidebooks to digital listicles, both editorial and advertorial. I specialise in Spain – particularly the Canary Islands – and Wales as destinations plus gastro-tourism across the world from Tokyo to Tasmania, California to Copenhagen. I’m a long-standing member of the prestigious British Guild of Travel Writers.

Food writing

Whether creating and testing recipes for food magazines, reviewing the latest restaurant openings for a national newspaper or commenting on food culture and traditions on radio and TV, I craft food stories with precision and personality. I’m an active member of the lauded Guild of Food Writers, and a regular judge and coordinator for the Guild of Fine Food‘s Great Taste Awards. My popular food and drink Substack newsletter, the Welsh Kitchen, explores the culinary culture of Wales.

Wine writing

I’ve always considered myself something of a professional drinker, and since completing my WSET Level 2 Award in Wines several years ago, I’ve been putting it to good use creating content focussed on some of the world’s best – and most interesting – wine regions for international titles. I also conduct tastings for public and private events and I am the resident wine communicator for the London Welsh Centre.
